MOVIE REVIEW | WONDER WOMAN (SPOILER-FREE)

Hello, hi, and welcome to my blog! It has been more than a month since I posted anything and I don't really have much of a reasonable explanation, so...... let's just head right into this review.

This day, 7th of June, I finally have watched one of my most anticipated movies of the year— Wonder Woman! And I can happily say that I am not disappointed at all. Although, I did not love every part of it (that I will discuss further on), I did enjoy it so much!

Before heading on to the actual review, here is what I know of the Wonder Woman Movie before watching the film:

Wonder Woman is the fourth movie of DC Extended Universe franchise distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures that was released in the Philippines last June 1. Directed by Patty Jenkins, this movie earned a total of $103,251,471 on its opening weekend. As of now, it has reportedly grossed $240 million worldwide. This 141-minute long movie is starred by the amazing Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman herself along with Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. It is also starred by Connie Nielson, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis and a bunch more amazing actors.

(All of the details above are from IMDb and Wikipedia.)

Now that everything has been told, let's get on to the review!

Disclaimer: I am in no way knowledgeable enough to critic films in much intricate explanations. More often than not, I would probably repeat words I just said, forget the fitting terms, and just ramble everything up.

First of all. this movie was phenomenal! It was everything I anticipated it to be. It was so action-packed and was just purely wonderful. Although, I wouldn't say that it was Earth-shattering (it was for the first 3/4 in but the ending was a bit off for some personal reasons) this definitely was a huge improvement from previous DCEU films, at least in my opinion. Just a side note, I adored the first three DCEU films so if you're looking for a love-hate opinion towards the franchise, you probably wouldn't get it here.

With regards to the themes, I think you all know what this is about. It's about Wonder Woman conquering the world as then Diana. She's seeing the world for the first time as a pure and innocent girl. I really appreciated all of the realistic everyday themes that was shown in the film. I think it made the film more relatable while not leaving that fictional superhero-ey theme all fans have been craving for behind. This film really talks about feminism, which is something I rarely talk about. Now, ever since, I already believed that women can do whatever men can. I have a lot of people in my life that belong to the opposite sex so I am not really active in saying that women should be empowered because I already believe that they ARE. That's something I'd like to talk about in a future post, but yeah, just in case you were wondering why I'm not super pumped about the fact that this empowered women that's because I already know, personally, that women are powerful as equal to men. But I do have a lot more to say about this topic since I do know that not everyone shares the same opinion as I do, so I'll save most of my thoughts for future posts.

Getting back to the themes, I really liked how this film showed the drastic difference between women then and now that some people don't realize. I really found the little inserted humor hilarious! I was forcing myself to not crack up every time something innocently funny happens. If you've watched the movie, you'll get what I mean and I also plan to discuss it in details in another separate post.

In terms of the serious themes, I was crying inside all through out those scenes. There were some alerting realizations that you would find yourself reflecting upon while watching the movie. Especially with today's issues of war and terrorism, this movie definitely wakes people up and shows the other side of the war. I'd really like to tell more but I'm afraid of giving spoilers away, so watch out for my future post!

Moving on from themes, let's discuss the actors who wonderfully portrayed their roles in this film. First of all, the most obvious choice, Gal Gadot exceedingly surpassed my expectations. She was literally Wonder Woman. You can see how innocent and furious and kind and compassionate and angry she was. All of the emotions Wonder Woman had was fantastically shown by her. I also loved how Gal Gadot managed the humorous scenes in such a natural way. Loved the fighting scenes, loved her acting, I just love her portrayal of Wonder Woman so much!

Chris Pine is a whole different story. I didn't expect much from him because this is actually the first time I've seen or heard of him. He really captures the moment without exaggerating at all. He's a natural, I must say. I don't know what it is, but he really has this way of making viewers feel something with little effort. He owned the character in the best possible way I could think of.

With the rest of the actors, I have nothing to say except they really did an amazing job. I love the amazons, the 'humans', the Germans, everything except for one spoiler-y character I soon will discuss in my spoiler filled review.

Now, the cinematography is hands down phenomenal. It is absolutely so much better than any of the films that stand out in my memory. I think it's probably because of the beauty of nature that was shown throughout the film. Personally, I loved those.

I also love how the characters were shot in the film. Obviously, Wonder Woman gets the most bad-ass shots in her fighting scenes, but that doesn't take away the fact that this film was beautifully taken. The war scenes, the feel-good scenes, everything! Shout out to the amazing cast and crew for a job very well done!

The tone of the movie I can say really matches the cinematography and the acting. There were parts where things get a little suspense, then a bit of humor gets inserted, then some sad scenes, you get every piece of cake from watching this film. Despite the war scenes, this film did not fail to make my heart melt, my spirit alive, and my geek soul enjoy. This film was spectacular!

The music and sound effects was surprisingly amazing. Usually, the music doesn't really stand up to my memory after watching the film but the ones in this film really stood up to the excellence of the film. I love the bad-ass background music when Wonder Woman gets into action.

Overall, this film is extraordinary! It had an amazing cast, with an award-winning script (in my book), that really showed themes relevant to our modern world. It had an amazing cinematography with a very fitting background music. Though excellent, of course it still had its flaws (which I would discuss in a separate blog post), but still everything I loved about the film stood out to me the most.

I definitely recommend this film (if by some weird reason you still have not checked it out), and I am giving it a 95%!

And I think that's it for my movie review of Wonder Woman.

Hi! It's Luigi from exactly a month after I first drafted this post. I'd just like to announce a bit of minor changes that I'll be having this month. First of, no you have not read the intro of this post wrong, I have indeed drafted this post last June 7, and the main reason why I have not had the chance to post this review is because of school. Being in 10th grade is much harder than what I initially expected thus the downfall of the spare time I had in my schedule. I really want to still keep my blog running thus, I will try my best to post as much as I can.

Now, with the changes, I'll be doing shorter posts from now on. This is because most of the time, the main reason why I haven't been posting is because I'm still not contented with the length of my blog posts. You see, I'm a bit of a perfectionist and half of this blog post was actually just inserted now. On the next blog posts of mine, I'll try to just say what's on my head the moment I draft a post. I won't try to countlessly worry that I've forgotten to add something because I really do want to blog. What's the use of almost perfect posts when I hardly post at all right? So yeah, expect some weirdly short posts in my blog.

Nonetheless, I am very happy to have this one posted (and removed out of my endless list of blog drafts)!

That is it and may the universe contrive to bring happiness to all of you!
